Saint Igantios Briancianinov
Word on Death
Translated from Russian by Adrian and Xenia Tanasescu-Vlas
Not for such a long time wonderers on this earth, we badly need to find out which is our fate in eternity. If in the time of this short wondering here we take great care to remove from us all those distressing things and surround ourselves with all the pleasant ones, we all the more are indebted to take care about our fate in eternity. What is the death doind with us? What fate does the soul expect beyond our fate in eternity? Is there a reward for the good and the bad that the people have done willingly or unwillingly? If the evil is much stronger and is advancing continually on earth and the good is persecuted and suffer, can we really talk about such a reward? There’s an absolute need for us to lift up the veil from the mystery of death and gaze at the future from beyond the man’s grave which the bodily eyes cannot see. (Saint Ignatios Briancianinov)
