The life and wonders of St. Simeon of Verhotur
Translation from Russian by Gheorghita Ciocioi
Published 2011
St. Simeon of Verhotur – the first Siberian struggler
St. Simeon of Verhotur is a saint of early Siberian Christianity. Born in Russia, in a devout aristocrat family, even since childhood he rejected worldly pleasures and cares, turning his thought towards God and pursuing the betterment of his soul. Seeking solitude to allow his spiritual struggle, he ran away from the people surrounding him, leaving his country, honors, wealth and renown, to withdraw in Siberia – a virtually wild place, which Christianity had barely reached. Among all kinds of people, often hostile to him – natives, raskolniks, outlaws or fugitives – the saint struggled here for his salvation, unknown to everyone, becoming an epitome of wisdom, humility and endurance; few things are known about his life, but his many miracles are recorded in this book.
The full relics of St. Simeon, set in St. Nicholas Monastrey in the town of Verhotur (Siberia), keep working great wonders and healings, and the devout Christians throughout Russia venerate him as the first Siberian saint.
