The Life of St. Nicholas of Yanina
Translation from Bulgarian by Gheorghita Ciocioi
A Saint of our people lays down his life for his faith, and becomes a patron saint of the city of Sophia!
Or Aromanian origin, young Nicholas sets off at the beginning of the 16th century, from his native Thessalia to Wallachia, driven by a single thought: to dedicate his life to Christ. Divine providence had it otherwise: in the year 1555 he was called to confess his faith, and his blood adorned with the imperial purple of martyrdom the town that later became the capital of Bulgaria.
The Life of St Nicholas of Yanina – for the first time translated into Romanian – is one of the most touching lives of saints in the Balkans. It shows how by unfaltering faith, courage, devotion, one is led into the arms of the Father and the company of Christ’s friends - into eternal life.
