The Life, Apparitions, Miracles, Akatist and Paraclis of Saint Ephraim the New
Ed. L.S. Desartovici; Illustrations by Florin Mateiu
Second Edition
Constantine Morphes (later known as Ephraim) was born in Trikkala, Thessaly on September 14, 1384, the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. His widowed mother sent him at the age of fourteen to the patriarchal monastery of the Annunciation of the Theotokos on Mount Amomoi in Attica, Greece. He remained in the monastery for twenty-seven years. On September 14, 1425, Ottoman Muslim soldiers broke into the Annunciation Monastery and tortured Ephraim. He gave up his life after suffering indescribable mistreatment on May 5, 1426. In June 3, 1950 he first appeared to some Orthodox Christians in a vision. When he was unearthed, it was discovered that his body exuded a sweet smelling fragrance. This work contains the life and miracles of Saint Ephraim, the monastic priest from Attica, also known as the New.
