The Holy Fathers on our Lord’s Death and Resurrection by St. John Chrysostom, St. Teophilact of Bugaria, St. Epiphanius of Cyprus, St. Gregory of Nyssa St. John Chrysostom, St. Teophilact of Bugaria, St. Epiphanius of Cyprus, St. Gregory of Nyssa
The Holy Fathers on our Lord’s Death and Resurrection

See, then, that from this time forward death is always called “falling asleep” and “sleep,” and that what used to have a frightful countenance is easily disdained now, after Christ’s resurrection? See how magnificent is the triumph of resurrection?! For this resurrection, countless goods were bestowed upon us: for this resurrection, the devils’ deceit was lost; for this resurrection, we scorn death; for this resurrection, we despise this earthly life; for this resurrection, we struggle towards the things to come; for this resurrection, although we are burdened by a body, we shall be nothing less than the bodiless hosts, if only it is our will. Today is the day of our greatest victories. Today our Master, after he hast defeated death and trampled the tyranny of the devil, gaveth us the path to salvation through resurrection. Therefore let us all rejoice, dance, and exult! For, although it was our Master to triumph and gain victory, still joy and exultance are ours, for he worked it all for our salvation. (St. John Chrysostom)
