Saint Demetrius Basarabov with relics kept at Bucharest. Life, history of relics, akathist hymn and supplicatory canon

Edited by L. S. Desartovici, illustrated by Călin Vădan

The present books contains accounts and testimonies to the works and wonders of St. Demetrius, since the beginnings of his spiritual struggle to this day. It includes his life as well as prayers and iconographic images; the history of the saint’s holy relics; a brief chronicle of the 1955 events, when the saint’s veneration became generalized throughout the Romanian Orthodox Church; the description of the pilgrimage courses to the saint’s relics in Bucharest and to the valley of Lom River, to Basarabovo, to the dwelling places of the Saint; and the wonders worked by Saint Demetrius. Father Ioanichie Bălan said: “Many wonders worked by Saint Demetrius’ relics are miraculous healings, as well as help with various requests profitable for the soul. Most miracles, however, have been forgotten, as nobody has recorded them in writing. Others still exist in the memory of the worshippers, to be ultimately forgotten, too. But in order to avoid losing them all, and stirring St. Demetrius’ wrath for our carelessness, let us testify to the wonders worked by his relics.”
The book concludes with two sermons on the Saint’s feast, delivered by Fathers Cleopa and Sofian Boghiu, and a collection of prayers dedicated to Saint Demetrius, the akathist hymn and supplicatory canon to the Saint, the hymns included in his celebration day of October 27, as well as the akathist hymn composed by the martyr monk Daniil of Rarău (Sandu Tudor).
