Serban Tica Published 2011 The title of this book paraphrases St. Apostle Paul, who described his own experience as another man’s: “I know a man in Christ, who fourteen years ago – whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, only God knows – was caught up to the third heaven.” I used this quotation for two reasons: firstly, because Father Sophrony had a similar experience to that of the Holy Apostle Paul, which he might have used in his writings; secondly, I saw in Father Sophrony a man in Christ. I saw, heard and tasted the word of life, the guide to immortality. On approaching him, I felt I stood before a great personality, like Apostle Paul, St. Simeon the New Theologian, or St. Gregory Palamas, whom he loved dearly.
