Ignatius Brianchaninov, St.
From grief to the comfort of God. Letters to laypeople
Translation from Russian by Adrian Tanasescu-Vlas
Published 2012
Faith leads man by the hand and brings him before God. Such man is elevated above the dark chaos of doubt, disbelief, errors, the vain and empty deceit of philosophy, just like the clouds, rocks, precipices or howling waterfalls under the feet of the man standing on a tall mountain.
Earthly life is a journey that never stops for a moment. We go on and on, and suddenly, the gates of eternity open and we are lost in its unimaginable boundlessness, as the holy David beautifully puts it: I am a stranger on earth, do not hide your commands from me (Ps.18, 19). Indeed, the law of Christ is a thread which we follow in order to leave the dark labyrinth of earthly life and reach blissful eternity.
Be well and thrive!
