Michel Quenot
From Icon to the nuptial feast. God’s Image, Word and Body
Edited by Stefan Ionescu-Berechet & Adrian Tanasescu-Vlas
Christians have been celebrating the Eucharist ever since the Last Supper on Maundy Thursday. Uniting past and future, the Holy Eucharist is anamnesis, work of the divine grace and anticipation of Christ’s second coming, through His active presence among people. If man, however, strays from his Creator, then he gives up spiritual food, and his hunger for meaning, love and eternity becomes bulimia, an open door to the artificial paradises as numerous as they are subtle. This is why the eucharistic liturgy, alongside the Resurrection, constitutes the core of Christian life. And the Image offered as food in the Eucharist can be contemplated in the icon, a possible and necessary means of reuniting the disunited Christians. (Michel Quenot)
