Answers to youngster’s questions It is the great merit of the Christian Onomastic Dictionary – authored by Aurelia Bălan-Mihailovici – to emphasize the primordial role of Christianity as the grounds for the Romanian onomastic tradition. The erudite argumentation of the etymology of religious names, the detailed presentation of the names’ circulation throughout the Christian world by mentioning their most prominent bearers: saints, martyrs, ecclesiastical personalities, etc., as well as calendrical information on Church celebration of the great names of Christianity, are a novelty in Romanian onomastic lexicography, necessary in order to complete the knowledge of Romanian names history. The encyclopedic character of the dictionary and its scientific value, stressed in our introductory study, are indicative of the particular interest held by this special work for various categories of readers.
