Christ’s mystery: Life in Death
Translated from English by Gheorghe Fedorovici
Our approach lies essentially in acknowledging the fact that theology is a testimony, a confirmation of God’s redeeming and transfigurating power, manifest in Christ: Light in darkness, Life in death, Word in body. What history records as Jesus’ sentence to death, theology declares to be precisely the triumph over death of the One Who gave Himself so that the world might have eternal life… Theology actually begins with the resurrected Lord opening the book of Scriptures, so that His disciples could see how the Scriptures tell about Him and the necessity of His Passion; only so could the disciples be prepared to take part in the supper to which the Lord called them, the moment when He is recognized and at the same time vanishes from sight (Luke 24, 27-32), arousing their longing for the One to come. Theology is founded on Peter’s awareness that he had betrayed Christ, that he had been an accomplice in His death, but despite his sin he was forgiven and called to become an apostle, heralding Christ’s forgiveness, mercy and love – a novel creation.
